Alison Ciancio was a special young woman with a contagious smile and boundless enthusiasm. She was a sophomore
majoring in Animal Science at Iowa State University and active in the Dairy Science Club, the Seeing Eye Foundation,
and her local church in Havertown, Pennsylvania.
Alison was a student of the highest calibre. Her love for animals was second only to her love for her family and
friends. She had been active in sports in high school and a good student. She delivered food to homeless people in
Havertown, and raised seeing-eye dogs through the 4-H Club she belonged to. This love of animals is what brought her
to Iowa State University to study Animal Science. Alison could never get enough of life, and her smile and
enthusiasm made her a person everyone wanted to be around.

Alison was acting as a designated driver for her friends when she was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk
driver on January 6, 2002. The Dairy Science Club at Iowa State has established a memorial fund in Alison's memory
to provide a scholarship that is awarded each year at the Dairy Science Banquet.
The Alison Ciancio Memorial Scholarship
The Alison Ciancio Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the Dairy Science Club who most
exemplifies the selfless and caring qualities that made Alison a model student and someone whom many of her fellow
students considered a special friend. Strong preference is given to applicants that demonstrate a commitment to
helping others through involvement in community outreach activities.
