The December 2005 issue of Meat & Poultry Magazine featured Iowa State University’s Meat Science program as one of the leaders in the nation for the Meat and Poultry Industry. The report took a close look at what makes the high-ranking programs such as Iowa State University, Texas A & M University and the University of Arkansas able to prepare their graduated students to apply what they learn as they move from the academic world into key industry positions. The article featured current Meat Science Ph.D. graduate student Jeff Sindelar in the sections Scholarships Count and From the Field: education and employment matters. Sindelar discussed the value of the scholarships offered by Iowa State University to Meat Science Graduate Students and the opportunities that his graduate work at Iowa State University has afforded him, including international travel and exposure to the meat industry. Dr. Joseph Cordray, Extension Meat Specialist at Iowa State University along with Iowa State University%uFFFDs Meat Science Program graduates Dr. Jay Wenther (Ph.D. 2003), Assistant Executive Director of the American Association of Meat Processors and Dr. Terry Houser (Ph.D. 2004), Extension Meat Specialist at the University of Florida were also featured in the article. This is the fifth year Meat & Poultry Magazine has featured a report on university programs serving the meat and poultry industry. Iowa State University was ranked as the best Meat & Poultry Science Extension Program in the nation in last years feature.
