Dr. Harris teaches Microbiology 310, Medical Microbiology, and 310L, Laboratory in Medical Microbiology.

Dr. Harris's research focuses on infectious diseases of swine and shrimp. Current diseases of primary interest are Porcine Reproductive and Reproductive Syndrome (PRRS) virus, Swine Influenza Virus (SIV), Glasser's Disease caused by Haemophilus parasuis, Mycoplasma pneumonia, and Porcine Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS) of swine and White Spot virus and Necrotizing Hepatopancreatitis of shrimp. Dr. Harris has expertise in the areas of pathogenic microbiology, nomenclature and classification of bacteria and viruses, bacteriophage therapy, vaccinology, infectious agent elimination techniques, antibiotic alternatives, and xenotransplantation.
