2016 Fall Iowa Thoroughbred and Breeders and Owners Association Sale is in the Books

Kela’N It was the top selling yearling for Iowa State University’s consignment at the annual Fall ITBOA sale at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines Sunday, October 15. The filly by millionaire stallion, Kela, is out of the mare Lady Ban Shee. The hammer fell at $25,000 making Kela’N It the highest priced yearling sold by ISU to date.

The ISU consignment included a total of nine horses. Seven horses owned by ISU and two client owned horses. The ten students enrolled in AnS 317B spent the summer and part of this fall conditioning and preparing the horses for sale. Students involved include Natasha Arritt, Stormy Baker, Paige Gilster, Ashlyn Grogan, Megan Kirchgatter, Lizzi McMahon, Kristen Reno, Priscilla Sanchez, McKenize Smith, Riley Zielinski.

With three horses in five figures, the six ISU owned sale horses will just surpass the $50,000 mark and averaged just over $8500 per horse.  Iowa State University ranked 3rd leading consignor both by money and by numbers of horses sold.
