2005 Scholarships for
Graduate Students
in the
Department of Animal Science

Requirements to receive a Graduate Scholarship Award:

1.  Enrollment in the Department of Animal Science.
2.  A GPA of 3.0 or above. Student must not be on academic probation.
3.  A separate application must be submitted for each scholarship for which the applicant wishes to be considered.
4.  Submit applications to: Iowa State University, Dept. of Animal Science, 1221 Kildee Hall, Ames, IA 50011-3150. Applications must consist of:
        a)  A description of achievements relative to the award;
        b)  A transcript of academic performance;
        c)  A summary or vita showing professional activities;
        d)  A list of publications;
        e)  An endorsement/nomination letter from the student's major professor.
5.  Application deadline is February 15, 2005.  Applications will not be accepted after this date.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Animal Science Graduate Scholarship Committee unless a special committee is convened for specific awards. Selections will be based on information as listed above and specific criteria listed for each scholarship; please note that some scholarships will require additional information, separate application forms, or require students to show financial need.


Financial Need Guidelines:

1.  Submit a Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 14, 2005, so that your financial need may be confirmed prior to selection. (Do not send your FAFSA form to the Dept. of Animal Science.)  International Students need to provide a statement of financial support that includes (but is not limited to) annual income from stipends, employment and family support; and an estimate of annual expenses.
2.  List Iowa State University on your FAFSA form.
3.  FAFSA forms are available online at the Iowa State University, Student Financial Aid website.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Animal Science departmental Poster Session on April 29, 2005 . Awards will be distributed in equal installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's university account. If a student transfers out of the Dept. of Animal Science, the scholarship award will be rescinded.
