2020 ITBOA Fall Sale a Success for the ISU Equine Program

Hop To It was the top selling yearling for Iowa State University’s consignment at the annual Fall ITBOA sale at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines Thursday, October 8. The hammer fell at $60,000 making Hop To It the highest priced yearling sold by ISU to date.

The 2020 ISU consignment included a total of 33 horses. Eight of the consigned horses were owned by ISU and the remainder were client owned horses. The eleven students enrolled in AnS 317B, Fundamentals of Equine Behavior and Training for Yearlings, spent part of the summer and part of this fall conditioning and preparing the horses for this sale. Students involved include Alyssa Koch, Alexis Stine, Ashley Arp, Brooke Stensby, Haley Menezes, Kara Smith, Kiley Kyhl, Lauren Brewer, Liz Kotewicz, Mallareigh Moser, and Mary Irons.

The proceeds for the eight ISU owned yearlings will be $126,600, an average of $15,825 per horse. In addition to selling the highest priced yearling, Iowa State University was the leading consignor of horses sold with 26 horses changing ownership and was the leading consignor in total sales of $273,800.

A few more photos of the students and the horses were captured by Haley Menezes and are posted on the horse farm’s FB page: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=472982510328209.
