March 4, 2016

Cyclone Swine Spectacular and Block and Bridle’s Spring Market Hog Show took place Saturday, February 27 at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center.  The Cyclone Swine Spectacular is a program put on by the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Around 57 youth, ranging from ages 8-18, took part in this contest. The young swine enthusiasts competed in 6 different events including swine evaluation, knowledge bowl, skill-a-thon, meat quality workshop, extemporaneous and speeches. Prizes were given out to the top individuals!

The Spring Market Hog Show went extremely well again this year with just shy of 100 pigs present at the show. The show was divided into 3 divisions: Purebred, Crossbred and Commercial gilt. The overall Grand Champion Market hog was exhibited by Jessica Frasher and the Reserve Grand Champion Market hog was exhibited by Drake Hook. The judge for this past weekend’s show was Troy Sloan from Cameron, Missouri.
