Dairy science students receive national scholarships

Three Iowa State dairy science students were recently named national dairy scholars by the National Dairy Shrine and the Klussendorf Association.

Jessica Schmitt, a senior in dairy science and agricultural communications, received both the top award for the NDS/DMI Milk and Dairy Product Scholarship and also a Klussendorf Scholarship. Jessica is active in many organizations on campus including the Dairy Science Club, Sigma Alpha, CALS Council, and Agriculture Communicators of Tomorrow.

Brianna McBride, a senior in dairy science and food science, was also awarded the NDS/DMI Milk and Dairy Product Scholarship. Brianna has been an active leader in 4-H and FFA, as well as serving as a CALS Ambassador. She is also involved in the National Junior Holstein and Milking Shorthorn Associations.

Jack Myers, recent graduate in dairy science, received the Senior Student Recognition Scholarship which recognizes graduating seniors with career plans in the dairy industry. Jack served as a CALS senator and was active in the ISU Dairy Products Evaluation Club while attending Iowa State. He is also working on a book chronicling the history of dairy at Iowa State University.  Currently, Jack is pursuing a master of science degree in Food Science at Kansas State University.

Although World Dairy Expo and scholarship banquet was cancelled, these students were recognized in Hoard’s Dairyman Magazine for their scholarships. Congratulations to Jessica, Brianna and Jack!
