Iowa State University Dairy Judging Team competes in Fort Worth

Congratulations to the Iowa State University Dairy Judging Team that competed in January 2022 at the Southwest Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest held at the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth, TX. Team members consisted of Amanda Engelken, Earlville, IA; Anna Hanson, Decorah, IA; Brianna McBride, Severance, CO; and Jessica Schmitt, Fort Atkinson, IA.

The trip started out with an excellent practice stop in Billings, MO at Groves-View Dairy where team members were able to evaluate high-quality Brown Swiss and Holsteins. The team also practiced at another excellent dairy, Sandy Creek Farm (Brown Swiss) in Bridgeport, TX and were able to explore the historic stockyards of Fort Worth. On contest day, Amanda was 3rd and Anna was 8th in Brown Swiss and the team finished 3rd. In the Holstein breed, Brianna was 6th and the team was 4th. Moving on to Jerseys, Anna was 9th, Brianna was 10th and the team was 4th. In reasons, Brianna was 9th helping the team to place 4th. At the end of the day, Amanda finished 16th overall, Brianna was 8th high individual and the team was 5th overall. It was a great finish to the judging season and we are proud of the commitment, time and effort these four individuals put into the judging season starting back in fall 2021, which allowed them all to be very successful.
