The 1954 team began the year by attending the Iowa State Fair, then journeyed to the Austin Meat Barrow Show in Austin, Minnesota, where they placed second. Another second-place award was presented the team at the Southwestern Livestock Exposition in Fort Worth, Texas. The team placed ninth at the Chicago International show and took tenth place at the Kansas City American Royal Show. The team was picked and coached by Prof. James J. Kiser.
