The 1983 team had reason to be proud. The ISU team took 3rd place at the National Barrow Show, with individuals Karen Timm 2nd overall, Doug Stewart 34d, Deb Pullin 7th, Chris Edgington 8th and Kevin Herink 9th. At the Mid-Continnent Livestock Exposition in Cambridge, Illinois, the team finished 1st overall by taking team Reasons, 2nd high team Swine, 3rd in Beef Cattle and 1st in Sheep, with Tom McDonald taking 4th high individual, Kevin Mobley 8th and Kevin Herink, 10th. At the American Royal, the team took 5th place out of 21 teams. The team took 2nd overall at the National Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest.
