Animal Science Seniors Receive CALS Council Awards

Iowa State University Animal Science Undergraduate Students, Katlyn Kahler and Shayne Wiese received College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council Awards last week. The College of Agriculture & Life Sciences Student Council serves as a unifying body among the students of the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and the Senior Administration of the College. The Council is composed of representatives from 35 agriculture-related member organizations, and meets every other Wednesday evening during the school year in Kildee Hall. The Council hosts annual events such as National Ag Day, Ag Freshmen/Transfer BBQ and CALS Week.  President, Edan Lambert, and Vice President, Marcus Jansen, said that Katlyn and Shayne were deserving of the awards and summarized their accomplishments below.   

Katlyn KahlerKatlyn received the Woman of the Year award.  This award represents a well-rounded and highly successful student within CALS. Katlyn seeks volunteer opportunities through 4-H because she sees the importance in making sure other kids have the same positive experience as her. She has also positively represented the college while traveling to 3 continents, 7 countries, and 19 different states through study abroad trips, conferences, and livestock judging contests.

 

Shayne WieseShayne Wiese recevieved the Man of the Year award. Shayne has given much of his time representing the college as a Livestock Judging Team member, and as 1 of 11 students in the nation, he was awarded the Sr. College All-American Livestock Judging Award. He has served in many leadership roles through Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, CALS Ambassadors, and numerous collegiate honor societies. He has strived to promote Iowa State and CALS in a positive light through academics and service wherever he goes.
