Four Block and Bridle Poultry Interest Group members represented Iowa State University at the US Poultry and Egg, Ted Cameron National Poultry Judging Contest held at Louisiana State University April 3-5th. The team received first place high team in production by evaluating five classes of laying hens. Madison Sexton, a freshman in animal Science, brought home the first high individual in production by only dropping ten points total in the hen division. The team finished ninth overall.
The 2019 team is only the second team to compete at the national contest since 1959, with the team restarting in 2018. The team consisted of; Will Mengler (Sr. An Sci), Madison Sexton (Fr. An Sci), Madison Willkomm (Fr. An Sci) and Emma Mannery (Fr. An Sci). The team was led by head Coach Cameron Hall and assistant coach Victoria Mason (Sr. An Sci) a 2018 team member.
The team is proud to represent Block and Bridle, Iowa State University and the egg industry in the state. Iowa is number one in laying hens and the team is highly dependent on the support of industry partners.
