Poultry Dedication Photographer: Paul Gates
Iowa State dedicated its new Robert T. Hamilton Poultry Teaching and Research Farm on March 5. The $7 million facility was provided solely through private funding partnerships and will advance education and research on genetics, poultry housing systems, nutrition, food safety and microbiology, flock behavior, health and welfare of animals and workers and environmental issues. The facility includes conventional, enriched colony and cage-free housing systems for research and a dedicated area for egg processing and packing. A public viewing and teaching area will ensure that individuals can inspect each type of system without risking breach of biosecurity or research protocols.
