2021 Vernon County Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest

On September 19th, 2021 the Iowa State University Dairy Judging Team competed in the 27th Annual Vernon County Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest held on the Vernon County Fairgrounds in Viroqua, WI. 

Fourteen teams spanning from coast to coast competed in the contest and Iowa State displayed a strong showing with the following team members: Amanda Engelken, Earlville, IA; Anna Hanson, Decorah, IA; Brianna McBride, Severance, CO; and Jessica Schmitt, Fort Atkinson, IA. 

In the Brown Swiss division, ISU placed 3rd overall with Brianna 2nd and Amanda was 8th.  In Guernseys, the team was 4th and in Jerseys the team was 8th.  The team finished 1st in Holsteins with Brianna in 5th place, Jessica was 6th, and Amanda was 8th.  Additionally, in reasons, the team finished 6th with Brianna placing 7th.  Lastly, the team rounded out the contest in 3rd place overall with two individuals finishing in the top 10.  Brianna was 9th, Amanda was 10th, and Jessica was 16th high individual overall.  The senior dairy judging team is proud of the results achieved at their first contest of the fall judging season and look forward to competing at World Dairy Expo and the North American International Livestock Exposition.
