AMES, Iowa - Jodi Sterle, undergraduate teaching coordinator and Eldred Harman Endowed Professorship in Teaching and Learning, will serve a four-year appointment as the Associate Chair of Teaching in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University.

It is outstanding to have her join the ranks of administration to enhance our student experiences and to provide a world-class education and training program for people wanting to work in the areas of animal husbandry and health,” said Dr. Dan Thomson, professor and chair of the Department of Animal Science.
The Department of Animal Science is a leader in research, education and extension for animal agriculture. The department is home to 1,029 undergraduate students studying animal science, dairy science and general pre-veterinary coursework. Students experience a 99% placement rate upon graduation. A new state-of-the-art feed mill and turkey teaching and research facility will soon be added to the diverse set of teaching farms providing students with hands-on learning experiences.
Sterle’s role as the Associate Chair of Teaching will include assisting the department in the administration and finance of the teaching programs, as well as developing and reporting on key performance indicators in the area of teaching. She will coordinate the undergraduate education program, determine graduate teaching needs, and execute new programming to increase industry engagement.
Sterle received her B.S. in animal science from Michigan State University. She continued her education at the University of Missouri where she obtained a M.S. and Ph.D. in swine reproductive management. Sterle served as an associate professor and state extension swine specialist at Texas A&M University before coming to Iowa State in 2011.
