Iowa State University Meat Judgers Compete in the Eastern National

The Iowa State University Intercollegiate Meat Judging Team and Coach Caroline Downey travelled to The Ohio State University – Columbus and competed in the Eastern National on October 2, 2021. 2021 team members include: Kaitlyn Baerg (Stanley); Taylor Clark (Swan); Bergin DeBruin (Rock Rapids); Kayle Eivins (Winterset); Kayla Hospodarsky (Cedar Rapids); Charli Mosier (Tipton); Emily Saeugling (Atlantic).

The second fall contest for the team, they finished ninth in the 12-team field.  The top five teams were: Texas Tech – Lubbock; West Texas A&M – Canyon; Kansas State University – Manhattan; Angelo State University – San Angelo, TX; and Oklahoma State University – Stillwater. In divisions, the ISU team placed 5th in pork judging; 7th in placings; 8th in beef grading and specifications; 9th in beef judging and overall beef; and 10th in lamb judging and reasons. Baerg was 5th in pork judging; and Debruin was 8th in specifications and 10th in beef grading.

In the alternate division, the three-member ISU team finished in 7th place overall and in each division.  The top five teams were: Kansas State University – Manhattan; West Texas A&M – Canyon; and Texas Tech – Lubbock finished out the top five teams. Eivins was 2nd in placings (dropping only 12 points in the contest) and 9th in pork judging.
