Swine Teaching Farm excels at the 2021 National Barrow Show

The Iowa State Swine Teaching Farm exhibited the Reserve Overall Champion Truckload which was also the Champion Crossbred Truckload at the 2021 National Barrow Show.

Swine Teaching Farm Manager, Derek Henningsen said, "It is truly humbling to be a part of such a great legacy here at ISU and the National Barrow Show. Several prestigious industry leaders have been in this same arena and it's extremely rewarding to share these same experiences that they did."

The students spent weeks prior to the show preparing. Taylor Feikert, sophomore in animal science said, "I really enjoyed National Barrow Show.  Leading up to the truckload show, we worked with the pigs every night out at the swine teaching farm.  This helped us to get them ready for the show. I really enjoyed getting to meet new people and spending time with my friends during this experience."

This experience helps students from across different majors connect through similar interests. Agricultural business student, Regan Fringer said, “The opportunity to see quality livestock on a national platform and be competitive at such a widely known show was special. It is safe to say the chance to assist with the Champion Crossbred Truckload and Reserve Overall Truckload for Iowa State was a great start to my next couple of years here in Ames."
