Iowa State hosts 75th Annual American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meats Conference

Graduate and undergraduate students representing the Iowa State University Department of Animal Science participated in a number of student activities at the recent 75th Annual American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meats Conference held in Des Moines, Iowa. Students successfully participated in numerous activities including the Iron Chef Product Development Competition, the Processed Meats Contest, and the RMC Quiz Bowl Competition. In addition to competing, students enjoyed networking, reciprocation sessions, and learning with faculty and students from universities across the nation as well as industry professionals.

In the Processed Meats Contest graduate student division: Caroline Downey (Putnam, IL) - second high individual; Jake Manternach (Osceola) - third high individual; Kayla Hospodarsky (Cedar Rapids) – seventh high individual; and Logan Johnson (Rosholt, SD) - 10th high individual. In the undergraduate student division, 2022 Iowa State University Intercollegiate Meat Judging Team member Christina Speicher (New Hampton) finished as sixth high individual.

In the Iron Chef Product Development Competition, undergraduate student Brandt Molyneux (Gibson) was a member of the Champion Team; undergraduate student Sarah Peterson (Lawton) was a member of the Reserve Champion Team; and graduate student Sarah Bludau (Hallettsville, TX)  and undergraduate student Sam Belanger (Lombard, IL) were members of the Champion Charcuterie Board Team.

2022 RMC Quiz Bowl Competition team members included undergraduate students Sam Belanger, Max Corso (Sandusky, OH), Bergin DeBruin (Rock Rapids), Hannah Folkerts (Waverly), Jacob Ludeking (Norway), Brandt Molyneux, Sarah Peterson, and Christina Speicher. This team was coached by meat science graduate students Sarah Bludau and Rachel Crowley (Cascade).

Congratulations are also extended to Hannah Folkerts for earning the C. Boyd Ramsey RMC Scholar Award.

Graduate students Jay Stowater, Logan Johnson and Matt Schulte also presented posters. Congratulations to all who participated and thank you for representing Iowa State University!
