Department of Animal Science Welcomes Logan Kilburn-Kappeler

Iowa State University’s Department of Animal Science would like to welcome Logan Kilburn-Kappeler to the team as an Assistant Professor. Her impressive career in research and academia makes Kilburn-Kappeler a wonderful fit for this role. 

"As an ISU alumna, I am excited to teach alongside the professors who sparked my interest and inspired me to pursue a career in academia. I hope to have the same impact on the new generation of students," said Kilburn-Kappeler. 

Kilburn-Kappeler is an alum of Iowa State University. In 2016, she graduated with her bachelor's degree in animal science and chose to continue her education here at Iowa State University by pursuing her master's. After obtaining her master’s degree, Kilburn-Kappeler then went to Kansas State University and studied in the Department of Grain Science and Industry to receive her doctoral degree. Her dissertation focused on evaluating corn-fermented protein in pet food applications. 

Kilburn-Kappeler was most recently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal & Food Science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. At the University of Wisconsin- River Falls she taught multiple courses on animal nutrition and a senior seminar class. Additionally, she served as a mentor for the Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (URSCA) program.

Logan demonstrates exceptional passion for teaching but also has a great background in companion animal nutrition, which is a rapidly growing area of employment for our students. We are eager to watch her career continue at Iowa State and the benefit it will bring to our students and stakeholders,” said Dr. Jason Ross, Chair of the Department of Animal Science.
