Iowa State Block and Bridle Hosts the 2025 National Block and Bridle Convention

After more than two years of planning, the Block and Bridle Club at Iowa State University successfully hosted the 2025 National Block and Bridle Convention at the beginning of April. The three-day event welcomed 325 enthusiastic Block and Bridle members from 24 universities nationwide to celebrate agriculture, engage with industry professionals and keynote speakers, and connect with fellow young agricultural advocates. Attendees chose from five unique industry tours, each showcasing a different sector of Iowa’s agriculture. Stops included Trans Ova Genetics, the National Pork Board, Sukup Manufacturing, Snow Rock Dairies, Nichols Cryo Genetics, and more. From reproductive technology and livestock production to ag manufacturing and research, students experienced the depth and diversity of agriculture in Iowa. 

Keynote speakers inspired and pKeynote speaker Trent Loos engages with his audience.rovided students with unique perspectives and experiences. Jim Olson, former CIA agent, intrigued attendees with insight into his life as an undercover spy. Trent Loos delivered an engaging message on the importance of advocating for agriculture, while Eric Schilling of Elanco spoke on sustainability and its growing importance in the industry. Brett Kaysen from National Pork Board wrapped up the keynote sessions with “10 Tips I Would Give to my Younger Self.” 

 

Breakout sessions covered a range of topics including policy and advocacy, entrepreneurship, animal health, emotional intelligence, and career development. Speakers included experts from the National Pork Producers Council, Iowa State faculty, and ag business professionals, all sharing insights to help students grow as leaders in the industry.

In addition to educational programming, the convention featured engaging social events. Highlights included an etiquette dinner, a night of laughs with comedian Gayle Becwar, and a food truck and game night with live music at the Hansen Ag Learning Center. Attendees enjoyed meals from the Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa State Dairy Science Club, and a prime rib dinner provided by the Iowa State Meat Lab, capped off by a celebratory dance. 

“The club having the opportunity to host the 104th National Block and Bridle Convention was an honor and a very rewarding experience. Our planning committee did a wonderful job with the event, giving Block and Bridle members endless opportunities, including networking with other members and industry professionals,” said ISU Block and Bridle President, Cameron Hiemstra. 

Iowa State Block and Bridle was also recognized for their outstanding achievements: 5th place in the Iowa State Block and Bridle Committee Chairs that planned the 2025 National Block and Bridle Convention.webpage contest, 3rd place in chapter activities, and top honors in individual competitions. Nichole Wardenburg was named 1st place junior, and Leah Greiner earned 1st place senior.
