Meat Lab Interns Compete in 2025 American Cured Meats Championships

The Iowa State University Meat Lab interns recently participated in the University Class division of the 2025 American Cured Meats Championships held in conjunction with the American Association of Meat Processors annual convention and trade show in Kansas City, Missouri.

Our interns had a great showing again this year with the following results:

  • Caden Lohr: 1st place in the BBQ class with Burnt End Boudin and 4th place in the Cured Specialty Meat Products class with Peach Bacon
  • Katie Finnegan: 4th place in the BBQ class with BBQ Shredded Beef
  • Wyatt Hilkin: 34th place in the BBQ class with Apple Marinated Ribs and 1st place in the Cured Specialty Meat Products class with Smoked Sausage
  • Wyatt Hilkin brought the perpetual plaque back to Iowa State for the 2nd year in a row for having the largest total combined score for an individual
