Department of Animal Science Hosts ISU Animal Nutrition Showcase

The Iowa State University Department of Animal Science recently hosted an Animal Nutrition Showcase located at Reiman Gardens. The gathering attracted an estimated 75 attendees, representing various specialties in animal nutrition.

The Iowa State Animal Nutrition Showcase started the day off exploring the future of protein markets with Chad Hart from the Iowa State Department of Economics. This presentation gave excellent insight into the importance of animal nutrition’s relationship with current consumption of protein. This presentation was follow

ed by “Translating nutrient discovery into nutrient applications,” by Brian Kerr from the USDA. From the Iowa State Department of Animal Science, Terry Houser spoke on “BBQ tips for the home cook.”

During the showcase, attendees broke out into sessions regarding updates from either the monogastric or ruminant labs. This allowed for a more detailed discussion between the Iowa State University research labs and the attendees.

During the conference, guests were given the opportunity to speak with graduate students in a panel format and undergraduate students in an industry mixer. This gave Iowa State students time to make connections with professionals in the current job market. Guests also had the option to schedule tours of Iowa State University facilities when registering for the event.

The program concluded with a presentation of the 2025 People’s Choice Award.

The Animal Nutrition Showcase was an excellent event that brought together companies and leaders across the animal nutrition industry. The 2025 program was engaging and addressed relevant topics.
