Sales Milestones for Iowa State University

Iowa State University achieved several milestones Sunday October 22. Hip 24, the gelding by Birdstone out of the mare Lady Ban Shee was popular during the sales preview and when the action stopped in the sales ring, the hammer fell at $55,000 making him the sales topper of the 2017 sale. The gelding was purchased by Larry Cascio.Horse sale

The ISU consignment included a total of thirteen horses. Ten horses owned by ISU and three client owned horses. Twelve of those horses brought winning bids during the sale making ISU the leading consignor by numbers sold. ISU also earned the recognition of leading consignor by money with 12 total horses selling for $163,500.

ISU was not only well represented by the horses but also the students. Ten students enrolled in AnS 317B Equine Behavior and Training (yearling sales prep) spent the summer and part of this fall conditioning and preparing the horses for sale. Students involved include Matt Alber, Selby Ballantyne, Danell Bramow, Holly Brown, Layla King, Sarah McGrath, Rachel Nishon, Haylie Owen, Winter Philibert and Emily Settle. The students took their yearlings from sun-bleached and awkward to gleaming and fit with a lot of dedication and hard work.
