Iowa State University hosted the Iowa 4-H Foundation scholarship presentation on Sunday at Scheman Auditorium. Over 70 scholarship opportunities valued at over $100,000 were awarded.. The various scholarship awards range in amounts from $500 to $10,000. Certain scholarships are open to students pursuing any field of study, while others are open to students pursuing degrees in agriculture, food and nutrition, ag business, animal science, journalism and STEM related studies. Dr. Don Beitz received notice that he will receive the Faculty/Staff Inspiration Award from the ISU Alumni Association. This award was established in 2011 as a way for former ISU students to recognize current or former faculty or staff who had a significant influence on their lives as students at ISU.
The NSIF held their annual meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina Thursday and Friday of last week. The Federation has an annual two-day conference that attracts leading swine breeders, industry and university geneticists, and prominent international figures in swine breeding. Papers presented during these conferences address both theory and practice of swine improvement. Workshops, panel discussions and concurrent sessions are used to maximize the information transfer and general value for everyone attending the conference. The Animal Science Department has eight members that are being honored on this coming Monday (Sept. 26) at the University Award Ceremony. The Ceremony will be held at 3:30 pm in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
