The 2018 Iowa State Livestock Judging Team Successfully competed at the 2018 Iowa Beef Expo judging contest in Des Moines, IA. Fifteen students allowed Iowa State to field multiple teams in the contest. Iowa State finished 1st and 2nd in placings, 2nd in oral reasons, and was named the Champion and 4th Overall Teams in the contest! Top individuals overall were Skylynn Fleming (2nd), Evan Dietz (3rd), Jacob Hinshaw (5th), and Lacey Knodle (10th). A new team consisting of 15 students from 6 different states have kicked off their judging careers at Iowa State! The spring judging season commenced with the Iowa State University Livestock Judging Team competing at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Iowa State University finished as the 3 rd overall team in swine judging, 5 th overall in beef judging, 5 th overall team in reasons and 5 th overall team. Iowa State University and the Department of Animal Science will be hosting the 4-H and FFA Livestock Judging contest this weekend. On Saturday around 9am, 4-H and FFA students will meet in Kildee Hall for the meat judging contest and they will go to the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center for the livestock judging contest. The Iowa State University Livestock Judging Team recently competed at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Iowa State finished 8th in swine and just outside of the top 10 overall in the hill contest. Individually, Kenton Lain, from Corydon, IA finished 9th in swine and Grace Seaba, from Muscatine, IA finished 5th in swine. In the carload contest, Iowa State was paced by John Fortin, from Darlington, WI, who was named the high individual in the contest. Iowa State finished 11th overall in the carload competition. The 2016 Iowa State University recently competed at the American Royal Livestock Judging Contest in Kansas City, MO. This contest is one of the largest and most competitive events year round, with 25 teams and 125 contestants competing for top honors. This year, the Iowa State University Livestock Judging Team placed 5th in beef judging, 5th in sheep and goat judging, and 5th overall!
