Tradition of Excellence Sale a Success

February 10, 2016

The Tradition of Excellence sale held on January 30th was a great success.  Thirty-seven cattle lots sold for $86,250.00 with an average of $2,331.  Three semen lots sold for $325 with an average of $108.  The gross of the sale was $86,575.  The Private Treaty Bull sale committed 40% of the departments’ bulls for a May delivery totaling over $20,000 and the remainder of the bulls are for sale on a first-come, first-serve basis until June 15th.

Three hundred fifty people attended the sale at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Student Agriculture Center and traveled from Wisconsin, Illinois and parts of Iowa.  The Beef Sales Team, comprised of students and leaders, ran the entire event.  Dr. Brad Skaar, Dr. Sherri Olsen, Dr. Patrick Gunn, Marshall Ruble and David Bruene worked with students to make this a successful event.  The students are exposed to cattle merchandising and to real world aspects of running a large sale.  Students set up the sale, perform the cattle prep, create the marketing, run financials and even prepare the food for the day of the sale.
