US Poultry Foundation and West Liberty Foods Donates to ISU Poultry Interest Group

The Foundation allocated $282,500 in student recruiting grants to 35 universities or other institutions with industry-related programs. Iowa State University Poultry Interest group received a $2100 grant from the Poultry Foundation made possible by West Liberty Foods. Poultry Farm Manager and Poultry Interest Group Adviser, Cameron Hall, says "The bulk of these funds are utilized to ensure our students have the opportunity to travel to the International Poultry and Processing Expo which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia January 30-Feb 1.  This expo covers topics from live production to processing and everything in-between.  With roughly 30,000 visitors and 1200 exhibitors it is truly an eye-opening experience for our students to see what opportunities are available in the poultry industry.  While in Atlanta students will participate in the college student career program as well.  Any remaining funds from the grant will be used to assist with costs to organize the State FFA Poultry Contest. Iowa State students host the contest by preparing classes and overseeing the contest the day of the event for almost 300 high school FFA Members."

The US Poultry Foundation provides annual recruiting and retention funds to colleges and universities to attract students to their poultry programs. The grants were made possible in part by gifts to the Us Poultry Foundation from companies, individuals and families, in addition to funds earned over the years at the International Poultry Expo, part of the International Production & Processing Expo.
