- Save and close out of all applications.
- Click the Apple icon () in the top left of your Finder bar, and then click "About This Mac":
- Once you see a window displaying your mac OS version, click on "Software Update..."
** If you do not see a Software Update button on this page, your version of mac OS may be out of date. Please contact ANS IT to request assistance.
- If this displays 'No updates available' you are up-to-date already and can close the window. Congratulations!
- Otherwise, if this shows "An update is available' you can click the "Update Now" button. Doing say may request to 'Restart Now' in the top-right of your monitor. If you have saved your documents and closed them you may click the button to restart. You're done!
- If it reads 'An upgrade is available' you are not yet on mac OS 10.15 Catalina. This is OK and you will instead want to look below that line to see if any other updates are available. If they are, click on the lowest "More info..."
- If you clicked "More info" there should now be a window like this:
If this window shows updates to Safari or your current version of macOS (i.e. says update and not upgrade) go ahead and click the blue "Install Now" button. Again you may see 'Restart Now' in the top-right of your monitor. If you have saved your documents and closed them you may click the button to restart. You're done!
- (Optional) This will require Administrator credentials. If you do not wish to receive notifications for updates to the next version of macOS, as this may prevent your existing software from functioning, do the following:
i. Return to the Software Updates window
ii. Click the "Advanced..." button in the bottom-right
iii. Uncheck 'Install macOS updates' and click "OK" (pictured)
You will no longer automatically upgrade nor be prompted for upgrades beyond your current version.
