I am a PhD student in Stephan Schmitz-Esser’s lab studying microbiology. My research is split into two projects.
My major project focuses on genes that are suspected to be responsible for Listeria monocytogenes ability to compete with other microbes in food production environments and thus aid in the persistence of Listeria monocytogenes in food production environments. The second project I work on is comparative genomics of cheese rind bacteria from artisanal cheeses to identify genes involved in cheese ripening such as genes for flavor production.

I am a Master student in Stephan Schmitz-Esser’s lab studying microbiology. The main focus of my thesis is the characterization of microbial communities residing on the rumen wall. For this, I will focus on community characterizations using 16S rRNA gene targeted amplicon sequencing and functional characterizations of rumen wall microbes using metagenome shotgun and metatranscriptome sequencing.
