December 2 at the Jeff and Deb Hanson Agriculture Student Learning Center youth in grades 7-12 attended the 2017 Beef Blast. This workshop, hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Iowa State Department of Animal Science, taught participants about working with beef cattle. Youth had a variety of hands-on workshops to explore genetics. They judged heifers and cows to develop their keep or cull strategies, provided ultrasound for steers to determine carcass traits, and practiced using EPDs in a Bull Buyer game.
